Do you enjoy RC helicopters, dabbling with electronics, and engaging in DIY projects around the shop, house & yard? This is the UA-cam channel for my website www.rchelicopterfun.com and as such is focused on helpful RC helicopter related projects.
Over time, the scope of content has broadened to cover DIY mechanical and electrical projects many of us RC "heli heads" are just as interested in. The amazing hobby of building and flying RC helicopters teaches us so much about how mechanical & electronic contrivances work, it's an easy and natural progression that many of us RC heli nerds proudly become electronic and mechanical DIYers.
As RC Helicopter & DIY experience teaches us... "IF IT'S NOT BROKEN - IT SOON WILL BE!"

I Hit A Deer With My Boxster - Is It A Write-Off?
I hit a deer with my Boxster! Let's find out exactly what's damaged and get the car driving again in order to take it to the body shop. The insurance company has already told me it's possibly a write-off.
I was going about 70 kph when the deer jumped out from a deep ditch in full stride onto the road. I barely had time to react. It's all a blur to be honest and happened so fast, but I do remember feeling the ABS brake pulsation just before the impact so I obviously reacted enough to be hard on the brake pedal.
In this instance, I would say when it comes to Porsche vs Deer, both came away hurting and it's a crappy feeling regardless. I've never hit a deer or similar large animal before so this experience has shaken me to the point I'm still reluctant to drive on that same road.
Anyway, time to get this little 986 fixed if possible.
This is part 1 of this deer hit repair journey. I hope the story has a happy ending for our little Boxster as my wife & I have had it for 23 years now and it holds many fun & enjoyable motoring memories; it's value to us goes well beyond book-value.
Stay safe folks!

Sorry about the loss of Mia.
At least you only hit 1. I took out 5 deer 7 yrs ago with my new camaro. I have started my R2 build. Thanks for the insight
5!!! OMG. Hope you were ok. That must have been alot of damage - write-off?
NO, you mean it blips the Exhaust valve not intake. Thanks
NO, the decompression release is on the INTAKE cam - end of story.
Hi John, Why don't u make a video about RotorFlight, a revolution in helicopter FBL unit. Hope u would come up with tht
I'm not a Rotor Flight user. I fly Bavarian Demon and Ikon mostly plus it's a big time investment in learning, getting used to and fully trusting a new system. With that said, I'm interested in trying the new RadioMaster Nexus which as you likely know runs on RotorFlight, but it at least has been properly tested and tuned by others as I have no time nor desire to beta-test open-source unknowns, so we will see what the future holds. Jonas of course has already done a full Nexus configuration video which I can't hold a candle to.
Thank you for sharing this with us Mr .Salt. Let's put things into perspective. One, nobody ( human that is ) was hurt. Two,the damage is not too bad and it is good you will get her back for more memories down the road . Three, we are lucky we don't live in war zones with horrors we see every evening on the news.My mother in law turned 101 last week and was born and lived in Brittany, France where the Germans occupied the place during WW2. Listening to her stories, one realizes we ''complain'' a lot compared to what she endured . Stay courageous for Mia's passing. The pain will ease with time, you've been through worst. As a Montrealer, love your t-shirt ! Take care.
Yes indeed.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it & thanks for watching 🙂
The stand looks great, but it also looks like it's not even remotely the right shape for the tool. Both the tip and the plastic body of the gun are in contact with the metal cage of the stand - you leave that switched on in the stand for any length of time there's a good chance the plastic will start melting/burning...
Stand works perfectly fine and barely gets warm, even after having the gun in it for over an hour due to the simple fact the contact area where the tip rests against it is less than 1mm square, ergo has very little thermal conductivity. What little thermal energy is transferred into that large metal enclosure is instantly dissipated from the passive heat-sinking. Way more heat is transferred into the end of the gun from the heated shaft.
do you ever drive your vehicles? you winter rims look better than my summer ones I just power washed and repainted.
Don't drive as much as I used to, but I detail the wheels every spring & fall while swapping and ceramic coat them which really has helped with washing all the salt and grime from them. Wife however had a contract job over the past 3 years with a 160 km daily commute but her winter wheels also faired well with the ceramic coating.
Damn John - sorry about the Porsche but well done ojn sorting it and, very sorry about your dog - fuckin sucks - end of. Take care brother.
Thanks mate - what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger; at least that's what I try to convince myself 🙃
I’m so sorry to hear about your car and especially your puppy, I lost my little puppy of almost 15 years a couple months ago, still breaks my heart, 2024 has really sucked for me and my family, everything keeps breaking and worse I’m probably going to lose my 85 year old mom’s this year, I appreciate all you do John 😊❤️
Appreciate the comment and very sorry to hear about the recent loss of your 4-legged friend. They are special little personalities aren't they. Enjoy the time you have left with your mom; life can certainly be a challenge at times. Hang in there mate - we're all in this ride together.
I have a mower with mulching blades on it with the chute closed! Do I have to close the deck as well? Or does it just mulch it and spit out nothingness?
Hi John, nice work. Sorry too hear about Mia. Things will get better. 🙂
Great video, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it & thanks for watching 🙂
I'm glad you're OK, John. Very sorry to hear about Mia. And then there's the headache of dealing with even the best insurance company. Sometimes things just pile on in life. Hope calmer seas are on your horizon, mate
Appreciate the kind thoughts - thanks 🙂
Thank you
Welcome 🙂
And when you use a computer balance spin it twice!
You know what you're doing. I've been doing this stuff since I was 10 years old and I remember when the rep guy came in with the first FMC balancer and then we went to the new style tire machine Hoffman! I'm 64 yrs old!
Excellent Video and I now know why my 24V Intek VTwin will not start. Next step is tear down and rebuild. Thanks!
This is *only* an issue with the *single cylinder* Intek's not the twins.
@@Rchelicopterfun well, mine is doing the exact same thing trying to start. Replaced starter thinking that was it but nope. Unit is now at my trusted mower shop repair. He said ‘look for a new engine’. I said, I’ll pay to have you test it apart and find cause of new start. Will see.
The start of your video shows the exact symptoms of my twin Intek. I replaced the starter and still have same issue. Now at trusted mechanic/mower shop and he is going to do a tear down. He thinks it might be crankshaft. Thanks again for the excellent video! @@Rchelicopterfun
His Radiomaster turn on message hilarious!! lol. Great review too 👍
Thanks for the review. I wanted to order mine but saw another brand that looks identical to it called Quicko/Quecoo Is it same company or just a knockoff?
When dismounting start at the valve, finish at thee valve on mounting, you finished at 3 O' clock instead of 12. bead break opposite the valve (6 O' clock) I used to break at 12 O'clock and sometime damage the valve, tubeless ones got butt torn off, tube valves got thread damage
Nice job!
If in a southern climate - can also dump a cup or two of heavy airsoft pellets inside each tire for life of tire dynamic balancing ! Especially good for small tires
Does these handles get hot?
Mine don't - with the caveat I rarely run/solder over 400C.
Does this have altitude hold?
Scale flying...flight times? Gettin me one!
Good clear vid. Thanks.
I used to mount tires all the time when side walls were tall. I could slam a 15" buick tire on the rim in one swing.
Before spin balancing what did we have? You guessed it, bubble balancers.
Briggs & Stratton dose this on Purpose, Stay away from the single cylinder motor.
Didn't realise this was DIYable tbh And just seen the price of the tool. Sort of pays for itselr adter a few sets of tyre changes. Also makes life easier to refurb wheels if you can remove and refit the tyres.
Can a 60w soldering iron do the job? Not as clean as this one
Need at least 100W to do larger gauge wire & connectors. Power is covered in detail on my RC Soldering Beginners page: www.rchelicopterfun.com/rc-soldering.html
hai how to use paralel port, and how to build the cable for paralel, any tutor ?, thx
Great review
Would have been a home run with brushless motors...
I had one of these a a boy, I was so lucky
How to order that kind of tire changer sir?
I got mine from Amazon, links in description.
Zurück in die Zukunft 😅 auf diese Art hat man 1960 Reifen Montiert, ein 195/70R 14 war damals ein UHP 😅 und heute RFT, 25 Serie, 22 Zoll und dann dieses Teil😅😅😅😅😅
John, What an excellent review and vid! Just straight to the point with everything! We released a portable air pump. Are you interested in giving a review? Is there a way to connect with you
John , thanks for all the videos. quick question, can you use this tire changer without bolting? into the concrete floor. for example, if I need to bring tire changer portable to somewhere a person is stuck on the road. thanks very much.🍺🍺🍺
It has be firmly secured down to something as there is ample leverage force being applied during bead breaking, dismounting & mounting; I wouldn't have risked drilling through a hydronic line in the floor otherwise 🙂
Mine was tipped upside (accidentally using loading ramps into a truck). Now it acts like a dead battery but it’s not. Any idea why it won’t even attempt to turn over??
they fine if it loose little bit but if u push them with your 2 finger and they come out definitely need to be replaced .
would you think reassembling the mower without the decompression system would work
If it's not fixed/replaced, then it will function exactly the same as when it was broken - unable to start without positioning the piston on the down stroke every time. Which will of course eventually wear out the starter while stressing the bendix starting gear and battery.
well done
🌷
Soooo ill have to go to the tire shop.
great car taste! :)
Disect the 2.5
I seem to lose resolution too end of the throttle when I have the carb turned up
Can it bind on soektrum dx6i ?
Yes, as stated it has a DSM port for Spektrum DSM protocol receiver connectivity.
